WIM WENDERS TO BE HONORED WITH VANGUARD DIRECTOR AWARD AT CINEVEGAS 2005

LAS VEGAS – Internationally acclaimed director Wim Wenders will be honored with a Vanguard Director
Award at this year’s CineVegas Film Festival.  The tribute will include a screening of his new film Land of
Plenty and will be held at Brenden Theatres at the Palms Casino Resort.  Wenders will appear at the event
to accept his award.

CineVegas’ Vanguard Director Award recognizes a filmmaker whose body of work has made an indelible
contribution to the art of film.  It celebrates a director whose compelling visions and groundbreaking style
challenge convention and whose distinctive films are at the forefront of cinematic innovation.  Previous
winners include David Lynch, Bruce Conner, and Julian Schnabel.

“Wim Wenders is one of the worlds most renowned and insightful filmmakers.  For over thirty years he has
been making beautiful and haunting films that explore existential themes through brilliantly constructed
narratives,” stated Trevor Groth, CineVegas Director of Programming.  “CineVegas is proud to celebrate
one of the true mavericks of cinema whose films exemplify the true power of the visual medium.”

Wenders, a graduate of the School of Film and Television in Munich, has served many roles within the film
community.  In addition to directing full-length features such as "Paris, Texas" (winner of the Palm d’Or in
Cannes 1984) and Academy Award Nominated "The Buena Vista Social Club," he has acted as a critic for
several publications and created more than 11 shorts. In addition, Wenders has been associated with
several production companies, beginning in 1976 with Road Movies Filmproduktion Inc., which was
involved in more than a hundred productions and co-productions until it closed in 2003.  In 2002 he
founded his current production company, Reverse Angle.

The CineVegas Vanguard Director Award recognizes the over 25 films that Wenders has made during his
career.  During this time he has also received an Independent Spirit Award for "Wings of Desire," the
Grand Jury Prize at Cannes for "Faraway, so Close!," and the Berlin Film Festival’s Silver Bear for his 2000
production "The Million Dollar Hotel."
