SELF MEDICATED
Local Las Vegas resident Monty Lapica, has his first big screen feature shown at CineVegas June 17 and 18, 2005 at the Brendan Theatres inside the Palms Hotel
|
We viewed the film June 17th and it is a coming of age film about a young man who fought his demons and
won.
This is a story about an angry young man, who changed after his father passed away. He got angry at the
world, God and even his family. He turned on his mother, and later his best friends. His anger took over
his life; he was in jail, doing pot, and drinking too much. His mother took action that she felt was
necessary, but never knew what this teen help program would really be like.
He was kidnapped in the dead of night taken off to St. George, Utah to a teen institute that was supposed
to help him. This institute is no longer operating. It was more like a prison camp, than a place the mother
thought would be like a camp for her son to get the help he needed. This story was like a roller coaster
ride for the young man. But he overcame the odds.
See this film it will wake you up to the problems are young people have, in trying to cope with their
demons/problems in life. You will see that this young man took hold of his life and now has made a film
about it and put it on screen for others to see. The film became also a self-help program for him.
The film is very well acted, written and filmed. I think this should be in every movie theater so young
people can see they can make a difference in their own lives.
The filmmaker Monty Lapica wrote and directed this feature film. It is amazing this is his first venture into
filmmaking. You can see why CineVegas had it in their Jackpot films. For a 24 year-old to film such a
dynamic film as his first project is amazing. I will have more about the film and a brief interview with
Monty later.
