CAST OF 21 TO RECEIVE SPECIAL SHOWEST ENSEMBLE AWARD AT 2008
CONVENTION
COLUMBIA PICTURES’ 21 TO BE RELEASED ON MARCH 28, 2008
LOS ANGELES –The cast of Columbia Pictures’ highly anticipated film 21 will receive a special
ShoWest Ensemble award, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director
of the event, which will be held March 10 -13, 2008 in Las Vegas. The accomplished cast that
will be honored with the award on Thursday, March 13th, includes Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth,
Laurence Fishburne, and Kevin Spacey. In addition, on Wednesday, March 12th, Columbia
Pictures will host the world premiere of the film at ShoWest, with an after-party to follow at the
Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. The film opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, March
28th.
“Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne, and Kevin Spacey have endeared audiences with
individual standout roles in a number of previous films, and Jim Sturgess is an actor who is
surely about to break through. Together, they make 21 one of the highlights of the new year,”
noted Neuhauser. “Their unique talents have blended together to produce a dynamic chemistry
on screen. In addition, there’s no better place than ShoWest to honor this film, which showcases
our convention’s city’s charms so perfectly. We are thrilled to be able to present the cast of 21
this special ShoWest Ensemble Award.”
The Columbia Pictures action/adventure 21 is inspired by the true story of the very brightest
young minds in the country – and how they took Vegas for millions. Ben Campbell (Jim
Sturgess) is a shy, brilliant M.I.T. student who, needing to pay school tuition, finds the answers
in the cards. He is recruited to join a group of the school’s most gifted students that heads to
Vegas every weekend armed with fake identities and the know-how to turn the odds at blackjack
in their favor. With unorthodox math professor and stats genius Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey)
leading the way, they’ve cracked the code. By counting cards and employing an intricate system
of signals, the team can beat the casinos big time. Seduced by the money, the Vegas lifestyle,
and by his smart and sexy teammate, Jill Taylor (Kate Bosworth), Ben begins to push the limits.
Though counting cards isn’t illegal, the stakes are high, and the challenge becomes not only
keeping the numbers straight, but staying one step ahead of the casino’s menacing enforcer:
Cole Williams (Laurence Fishburne). 21 was directed by Robert Luketic. The screenplay is by
Peter Steinfeld and Allan Loeb, based on the book Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich.
The producers are Dana Brunetti, Kevin Spacey, and Michael De Luca.
