LOS ANGELES — ShoWest has named Robert Downey Jr. as ShoWest Male Star of the Year,
it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event, which will be
held March 10 -13, 2008 in Las Vegas. Downey Jr. will be presented with the ShoWest Male
Star of the Year award at ShoWest’s closing night ceremony on Thursday, March 13th at Bally's
and Paris Las Vegas.
“For almost four decades, Robert Downey Jr. has been entertaining moviegoers with a resume
of films that is as diverse and impressive as anyone could imagine,” noted Neuhauser. “From his
dramatic roles in such movies as Less Than Zero, Zodiac, Good Night and Good Luck and of
course Chaplin, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award®, to such lighter and offbeat
fare as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Back To School, Bowfinger, Wonder Boys and The Singing
Detective, to name just a few, the scope and range of his performances throughout his career
are the stuff that dreams are made of. ShoWest is thrilled to be able to recognize Robert
Downey Jr. for all of his outstanding work by presenting him with the ShoWest Male Star of the
Year Award.”
In May, Downey Jr. will be starring alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard
and Shaun Toub in Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment’s big screen adaptation of
Marvel’s legendary Super Hero Iron Man, opening on May 2nd. He stars in the Jon Favreau-
directed film as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the story of a billionaire industrialist and genius
inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his
intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. When he
uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armor and vows to
protect the world as Iron Man.
Downey Jr. can also be seen this year in Charlie Bartlett in theatres February 22nd and later
this year in DreamWorks Pictures’ Tropic Thunder with Jack Black, directed by and co-starring
Ben Stiller. The action-comedy centers around a group of actors shooting a big-budget war
movie when they are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. Downey Jr. has just
started production on DreamWorks’ The Soloist co-starring Oscar® winner Jamie Foxx and
Oscar® nominee Catherine Keener. The Soloist is based on a 12-part series of articles by Los
Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez about a homeless musician who dreams of playing at Walt
Disney Concert Hall.
Since making his feature film debut in 1970’s Pound, directed by his father Robert Downey Sr.,
Robert Downey Jr. has gone on to star in such memorable films as Natural Born Killers, Two
Girls and a Guy, Soapdish, Weird Science, Only You and Chaplin for which he earned an
Academy Award® nomination and won the BAFTA for best actor. Downey also made his

Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Comedy Series and earned him
