BODROV’S WORK TO BE SEEN IN PICTUREHOUSE’S MONGOL
LOS ANGELES — Sergei Bodrov will receive the ShoWest International Achievement Award
in Filmmaking, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event
that will be held March 10 -13, 2008 in Las Vegas. Bodrov will be honored for his exemplary
career at ShoWest’s International Day Luncheon on Monday, March 10th at Bally's and Paris
Las Vegas.
“An award-winning filmmaker, Bodrov has been a leading figure in Russian and world cinema
for over two decades,” noted Neuhauser. “Since making his debut in 1984, Bodrov has gone on
to create films with a humanistic perspective, rich sense of humor and consummate
craftsmanship. We are honored to be able to present him with the ShoWest International
Achievement in Filmmaking award.”
Bodrov’s work can be seen in the Academy Award® nominated Picturehouse film Mongol in the
U.S. on June 6, 2008. The film is a stunning historical epic that illuminates the life and legend of
Genghis Khan. Based on leading scholarly accounts and written by Bodrov and Arif Aliyev,
Mongol delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as
Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed
his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not
as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. Mongol
shows us the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so much of his
greatness rested.
Since making his feature film directorial debut in 1984, Bodrov has helmed fourteen feature
films, writing or co-writing all but two. Bodrov first won international acclaim for his 1996 drama
Prisoner of the Mountains which received both Academy Award® and Golden Globe Award
nominations for Best Foreign Language Film. His most recent directorial credits include the
historical epic Nomad, the romantic fable Bear’s Kiss, the suspense drama The Quickie and the
family film Running Free. Other credits include Sweet Juice of the Grass, Freedom Is Paradise,
Gambler, I Wanted To See Angels and White King, Red Queen. Among his upcoming projects is
Drunken Solider, a documentary about the band The Tiger Lillies.
