We Will Rock You
based on the music of the band “Queen”

“Queen” started out in 1971 and became a legendary band over the years.  Sadly in 1991 Freddie
Mercury died of AIDS.  November 23rd 1991 he announced he had AIDS, which he had kept a secret
from all except his family and those closet to him.   On Easter Monday, April 20th 1992, many of the world’
s top stars joined Brian, Roger and John (the remaining “Queen” band members) on stage at Wembley
Stadium.  This was a tribute to Freddie it was very emotional. The stadium was packed capacity and it was
televised live to over one billion people.   I was one of those billion people who watched this very
emotional tribute show on television.  I was lucky to have seen “Queen” on tour in the US in California.

No one can describe being at a “Queen” concert it was something wonderful to experience.  I don’t think
there will ever be anyone who could replace Freddie…he was one of a kind.

This musical is not there to replace Freddie or the other members of “Queen.”  It is based on their music.
The lyrics have been changed to go with the storyline from what I have been told.  They have also changed
the show to be more in tune with US audiences.  I understand there is a reference to the Paris Hotel where
the show is playing.    They are also making changes in the songs as the show is being shortened for Las
Vegas.

Ben Elton said in the press conference that he was changing the jokes to reflect American slang.  I
understand he has changed other things in the show too, such as the reference to the Paris Hotel.

Ben Elton is well known in the UK for his politically tinged stand-up comedy, the movie "Maybe Baby,"
which he wrote and directed.   He also did some television and many people in the US may remember the
“Blackadder.”  It was quite popular on PBS.  He also worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber on a musical
called “The Beautiful Game” about football during the conflicts in Ireland.  The musical did not do well,
but it was a hard sell when you think of the subject matter.   I enjoyed the music, but never had a chance to
see the show.  I hope that it will be done on DVD so the world can see it as I feel it has a great story.

“Queen Greatest Hits”' Album is to be released in conjunction with the opening of “Will Rock You” in the
US.    This is a new album being release through Hollywood Records; check out the
press release
regarding the new album.

The show opened on Monday, August 16,2004 to previews.  From all that I have heard it is being well
received by those in attendance.  Since the show is in previews they can still make changes, so we are not
attending the show until the official opening September 8, 2004.
